Evonik is a world leading producer of specialty chemicals, founded in Germany in 1847. The company produces chemicals that are vital to the manufacture of semiconductors.
Products include TEOS, which is a hydrogen peroxide product for use in semiconductor applications. Additionally, it produces silicon tetrachloride and ultra-high purity hexachlorodisilane. Its active oxygen products are used as photoresist removers, wet cleaning agents, and copper etchants.
The company produces ultra-pure functional silanes and colloidal silica under three of its brands; DYNASYLAN®, SIRIDION® and IDISIL®.
Strategy
In 2020, Evonik acquired PeroxyChem, which is the dominant supplier of hydrogen peroxide in the USA, controlling half of the market in the South, Central and Pacific Northwest regions of the country.
In 2024, Evonik opened the first North American facility for the production of its IDISIL® high-purity colloidal silica for the semiconductor industry, located in Weston, Michigan. In the same year, it opened its Global Semiconductor Center of Excellence in Allentown, Pennsylvania, which will carry out customer-driven projects and offer technical support for IDISIL customers, allowing Evonik to develop critical chemicals for the semiconductor industry.
Additionally, at the beginning of 2025, the company entered into a joint venture with Fuhua Tongda Chemicals Company (Fuhua) in Leshan, Sichuan Province, to produce and market hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in China. They have created a new company, "Evonik Fuhua New Materials (Sichuan) Co., Ltd.,” with Evonik as a 51% shareholder with the other 49% held by Fuhua. The company is building a 200-kiloton hydrogen peroxide mega-plant and production is due to start in early 2026, and applications include the semiconductor market. This partnership allows Evonik to expand its presence in China, where Fuhua can provide infrastructure and networks.
