Founded in 2011, Philips Engineering Solutions designs, develops and manufactures microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and assembles micro devices, producing more than 15,000 wafers every year. MEMS are a process technology which may contain, for example, miniaturized structures, sensors, actuators, and microelectronics. Philips Engineering Solutions has a MEMS foundry and a Micro Devices assembly facility in Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
Key application areas for the Philips’ technology include capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUT) which are used for ultrasound in medical applications, microscopy, inkjet printing, and other industries. MEMS technology also applies to a variety of other medical applications, which makes it possible to assemble smaller devices.
