UNISERS is a Swiss start-up which provides analytical instruments for identifying defects on silicon wafers. In February 2023, it secured $14 million in a funding round led by Intel Capital. This funding allowed the company to begin delivering demonstrator machines to chip manufacturers.
Surface Enhanced Raman Spectra (SERS) can detect sub-10nm particles with a patented nanotechnology which enhances the optical signals of particles by three orders of magnitudes. Whilst other particle characterization technologies can only perform elemental analysis, SERS can provide molecular analysis and chemically identify polymers.
UNISERS also participates in IRDS yield enhancement studies, with SERS technology being used to perform particle characterization analysis for proactive particle control experimentation, testing how much relevant contamination is generated on a wafer from a specific ultrapure liquid or processing chemical. The company has also built several generations of prototypes of 300mm wafer compatible machines, which are being used for testing in its Zurich laboratory, where customers can send unpatterned wafers or liquid chemicals.
