A common question with GAC treatment is what happens to the PFAS captured on the spent carbon. Drawing on five years of research and four full-scale reactivation trials, this presentation shows that high-temperature thermal reactivation destroys PFAS while allowing the carbon to be reused, with destruction and removal efficiencies above 99.9% and no detectable PFAS remaining on reactivated carbon. It also shares a Southwest US fab case study where GAC removed short-chain PFAS by more than 99.999%, enabling treated water to be returned to the UPW system.
