Treating water is paramount to the cost of producing oil and gas and the ability to sufficiently and economically dispose of this water is key to the success in the oil production business. This article reviews produced water treatment approach for shale gas, oil and mining, oil sand steam assisted gravity drainage, coal bed methane, coal seam gas and offshore oil/gas development fields. Technical options for the enhanced oil recovery water treatment will also be detailed.
