TOC measurement shows the total amount of organics in UPW but provides no information on which compounds are present. This presentation applies stir bar sorptive extraction with GC/MS (SBSE-GC/MS) to UPW, achieving high sensitivity with a dual-extraction method. The work identified 2-ethyl-1-hexanol at multiple points in a UPW system and confirmed mixed-bed ion exchange resin as a source through leaching tests.
